Starting in late April and early May, Spanish teenage girls will attend courses, revolving around perfecting "pick up techniques." The Segovia Town Hall is introducing a number of workshops intended to teach 13-16 year old girls how to pick up boyfriends. Held in the civic center, "aprende a ligar invites the girls to 'come to the workshop and improve your pick up techniques'." Socialist and Councillor of Youth, Javier Arranz, insists that the courses are meant to promote social skills. He also says that the workshops will help teenage interaction and prevent violence among the girls. While other groups have criticized Arranz' proposal, he still plans to schedule a separate course for the boys in the summer. I think that the classes will be very enlightening and hope that they are initiated in America!

Blog #2- Que hiciste el verano pasado?

En el verano pasado, fui al muchos lugares. Primero, yo fui al Disney World con mis amigas. Viajamos en el avion. Cuando llegamos, nosotros fuimos al parque de atracciones. Durante la semana, yo pasé tiempo con mis amigas y hablé con muchas personas interesantes. Fue muy divertida. Yo fui al Disney World con mi familia tambien. Yo disfuté tiempo con mi familia, y nosotros creemos el viaje fue muy divertida. Entonces, nosotros viajamos a la casa de mi tia. Visitamos con mi familia en Georgia. Nosotros fuimos al cine pero no recuerda que vimos. Fuimos al centro commercial tambien. Fue muy pequeño. Yo pensé que el centro commercial fue muy comico porque fue muy pequeña comparado a King of Prussia Mall. Salimos mi familia en Georgia porque nosotros fuimos invitados a un fiesta en Virginia. Nosotros fuimos a la fiesta y disfutamos tiempo con nuestros amigos. Cuando llegamos a nuestros casa, todos a nosotros fuimos cansadas. Nosotros no viajamos mas. Yo empece futbol para la escuela todos las dias durante el verano pero no viajar a la playa or otra lugares. Mi verano fue fantastico!

Recently, a nationally commended Peruvian film called "La Teta Asustada" (The Milk of Sorrow) has been nominated for a foreign language Academy Award. This film tells the story of Fausta, whose mother was raped by Peruvian military while pregnant with her, and other stories of sexual violence in Peru during the 1980s and 1990s. For example, Liliana Tenorio lost her father while she was only a few months old, and she saw her mother and other villagers raped by Peruvian soldiers when she was only 3. Both events still haunt her, but she finally has begun to inform others of what she has witnessed. Like LIliana Tenorio, many Peruvian women are victims of sexual abuse, but few have spoken up about the violence. According to a recent study in Peru, 83% of rapes were committed by Peruvian military against peasant women. Sexual violence exists all throughout the country, but in the poorest cities, where rebellious political groups fight for power, most villagers have been taken advantage of. Hopefully, the new Peruvian movie enlightens the world about the wrongdoings in Peru and other countries once it wins an Oscar in the 82nd Annual Academy Awards on March 7th.

¡Hola, me llamo Esperanza! Mi cumpleaños es el siete de abril y tengo quince años. Soy baja y tengo moreno pelo y ojos marrones. Soy deportista y hablador. Tengo cuatro otra personas en mi familia, mis padres y dos hermanos menores. No tengo mascotas. Me gusta muchos cosas. En el invierno, me gusta esquiar y descansar. No me gusta invierno mucho porque esta mucho frio y mal tiempo, pero me gusta celebrar La Navidad. En el primavera, me gusta correr y eschuchar musica. Me gusta primavera porque mi cumpleaños es en abril. En el veraño, me gusta ir a la playa y pasar un rato con mis amigos. Veraño es mi favorita. En el otoño, no me gusta a voy a la escuela, pero me gusta jugar futbol y ver mis amigas. Me gusta bailar, cantar, dormir, y comer tambien. Mi dia favorita es viernes porque es el principio del fin de semana. Mi colores favoritos son anaranjado y verde, pero mi dormitorio es morado. No tengo una comida favorita, pero me gusta helado, papas fritas, pasta y pan, y mariscos. Mi deporte favorito es futbol y jugo en dos equipos. Mi programas de television favoritas son Alegria y La Oficina. Mi cantantes favoritas son Beyonce y los actores de Alegria. Me gusta viajar mucho durante el veraño y mi destinos favoritos son California, Florida, Mexico, y Chicago. ¡California tiene todos! Un dia quiero a vivir en Los Angeles. Florida y Mexico son muy divertidas y hermosas. Me gustan tiempo caliente. Chicago no esta como las otras lugares. Chicago es ventoso y fresco. A veces nieva porque puede muy frio en el invierno. Chicago es mi cuidad favorita porque es muy interesante y divertida especialmente cerca de lago. ¡Eso es todo sobre mi!
